Online Workshop
This asynchronous course, developed in Articulate Storyline for a higher education institution, will empower instructors with advanced knowledge and strategies for creating engaging, learner-centered environments. Instructors will enhance student engagement and learning outcomes by transitioning courses from traditional instructor-led formats to active learning experiences. The course content incorporates a variety of active learning strategies, activities, and tools, leveraging existing institutional resources for a comprehensive learning experience.
Overview
The online workshop is intended to equip instructors with the skills and knowledge necessary to implement active learning techniques effectively. Instructors can improve student participation and retention by fostering a more dynamic and interactive classroom environment. The course aims to transform teaching practices, making them more student-focused and conducive to active learning.
Purpose
The instructional design for this workshop was executed in Articulate Storyline 360. During the analysis and design phases, I developed a comprehensive instructional design document. The prototype includes fully developed scenes and the complete second module, with the first module developed in phase one but currently deactivated in the prototype. The course navigation was mapped out using a flowchart created in Microsoft PowerPoint, ensuring a seamless and intuitive learner experience.
The course structure is based on a detailed task analysis and specific learning objectives. Adhering to the client's graphic identity requirements, I customized vector files in Adobe Illustrator and selected relatable stock images to create a cohesive visual aesthetic. The storyboard, developed from the flowchart, outlined the learner experience, detailing visual, audio, and interactive components for each slide.
The interactive prototype features slides that have been rigorously tested for instructional, visual, and technical functionality. Consistent branding and visual design principles were applied throughout the learning environment. To enhance the learning experience, Storyline layers, states, and triggers were used to segment text-heavy content, while voice and personalization principles were integrated through narration.
Formative and summative assessments, including knowledge checks, hands-on practice, reflection writing, and drag-and-drop tests, were developed to support knowledge retention. These assessments encourage learners to recall, relate, and reflect on the material, reinforcing the foundation of active learning.
