Job Aid

As an instructional designer, I created a detailed job aid to assist instructors in effectively using Poll Everywhere to create polls. This step-by-step procedural guide serves as a pre, during, and post-training resource for instructors participating in our development workshop. It is designed to be reviewed ahead of the training session, referred to during the session, and used as a reference afterward, ensuring instructors can confidently set up and use Poll Everywhere.

Overview

The job aid is intended to support instructors in enhancing their teaching methods by incorporating active learning strategies through Poll Everywhere. By using this tool, instructors can create interactive polls that engage students, making the learning experience more dynamic and student-centered. This guide aims to simplify the poll creation process, enabling instructors of varying technical skill levels to transition their courses from traditional instructor-led formats to more engaging, learner-centered environments.

Purpose

I began by putting myself in the learner’s perspective, walking through the process of creating an account in Poll Everywhere, and taking detailed screenshots for each step. These screenshots are zoomed in to highlight crucial areas, with arrows indicating where learners should focus their attention. This visual approach is coupled with concise action words to guide learners through each step seamlessly. The balanced design layout, adhering to the institution’s graphic identity guidelines with official colors, ensures a professional and cohesive look that aligns with institutional branding.

In planning the layout, I considered the varying knowledge and skill levels of our learners. I included steps that are essential for beginners while also ensuring that the instructions are straightforward and not overwhelming. For more experienced users, the reduced amount of text allows the job aid to serve as a quick reference. The design ensures that the job aid is accessible and valuable to all instructors, regardless of their prior experience with Poll Everywhere.
