Explainer Video
This explainer video was created as an alternative pre-training material for learners seeking multimedia instruction on creating a discussion forum in Blackboard. The steps are segmented into bite size and paced by the lighthearted background music, helping the audience move along the setup tutorial.
Overview
The video serves as a pre-training guide designed to equip instructors with the essential knowledge and skills needed to effectively engage their students in an online environment. By setting up a discussion forum, instructors can gauge learner engagement and ensure students are on track with the learning outcomes.
Purpose
Designed using Powtoon, the video allows viewers to control the instructional pace, enhancing the learning experience based on their individual needs. My approach was planned through learner analysis, taking into account the demographics of the instructors. I incorporated sequential screenshots from Blackboard, simulating real-life scenarios to create a relatable and practical learning environment. Red magnifiers were strategically added to highlight key steps, ensuring learners’ attention was directed to the most important parts of the screen. The video also includes a demonstration of the student view after setting up the discussion forum, providing instructors with a clear understanding of the end result.
With careful consideration of the institution's branding, I streamlined the design to align with brand colors, focusing on shapes and proximity to avoid visual overload. This thoughtful design ensures a balance between informative content and visual simplicity, making the learning process effective and enjoyable for instructors.
